Abstract

            Physical flexibility is a critical component of achievement, as it enables the execution of movements that demand elements of strength and speed. These elements are crucial for success in sports and other physical activities. A review of the training methods employed by junior teams in Babylon Governorate reveals the significance of physical flexibility. The researchers observed a limited application of specialized stretching exercises, as well as a general weakness in the accuracy of shooting from the fall. The objective of the study was twofold: first, to develop a series of PNF stretching exercises to enhance the accuracy of shooting from the fall in junior handball players; and second, to ascertain the impact of PNF stretching exercises on the accuracy of shooting from the fall. The researchers employed the experimental method because it was deemed suitable for the nature of the research issue. To this end, an experimental equivalent group design was implemented. The research community was determined by the players of Al-Musayyib Handball Sports Club for the junior category of 15- and 16-year-olds, who numbered 14 players. The researchers chose the research sample by random method, which amounted to 12 players representing 86% of the original community. The sample members were randomly divided into two equal experimental groups, each of which had six players. The researchers conducted the preliminary test of the research sample and stabilized the conditions of the test in terms of time, place, devices, and tools. They established the appropriate method for the test and the work team in order to achieve the same or similar conditions as possible when conducting the post-test of the research sample. The researchers developed a specialized stretching program employing the PNF method (see Appendix 1) to enhance physical flexibility. This program was implemented over a two-month period, with four units per week on Sundays through Thursdays. The total number of training units, which included stretching exercises, amounted to 32 units during the preparatory phase. The stretching exercises were performed prior to, during, and following the repetition of the fall shooting exercises. These exercises were performed with the same working muscle groups (2-4) and repetitions per exercise in a single training unit. The collected data were statistically processed using the statistical software package SPSS. The present study sought to ascertain the impact of PNF stretching exercises on the development of shooting accuracy in junior handball players. The findings indicated a positive effect of these exercises on the targeted development, suggesting a potential avenue for enhancing performance in this athletic discipline. The researchers concluded that PNF stretching has a positive effect on the development of fall shooting accuracy in junior handball players.
